Freestyle is a form of electronic dance music which emerged in the mid 1980s. Freestyle (also known as Latin Freestyle) experienced it's greatest popularity in the late 1980s and early 1990s. At that zenith, it's two main power centers were New York City and Miami, Florida. It was during that time that freestyle groups and artists such as Lisette Melendez, Stevie B, the Cover Girls, George Lamond, and Nyasia were burning up the charts and the radio airwaves. Even today, freestyle remains one of the hottest forms of dance music.
