Get down like it's the 1970s. If you thought disco was dead, think again. Although the name 'disco' and the 70s era music associated with it has largely remained in that decade, disco music still gets the dance floor packed. In the mid to late 1970s, disco was what was happenin'. During that time, people went to discos to party and dance the night away. Disco groups and artists include KC and the Sunshine Band, ABBA, Gloria Gaynor, Donna Summer, and Chic.

Disco played a big part in what dance music is today. In a sense, disco gave birth to hip hop and other types of musical genres and trends. Many believe that when the 70s were over, disco didn't really 'die', but took on different forms in other kinds of music. In other words, the dance music of the 1980s to the present day is actually disco, just in a different form. Disco marked the beginning of what is now known as modern dance music.
